About SunshineList

SunshineList makes Ontario’s public sector salary data easy to explore. Every year, the Government of Ontario publishes the “Sunshine List” — a disclosure of all public sector employees who earned $100,000 or more in the previous calendar year.

The Sunshine List is mandated by the Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act, 1996. Under this legislation, organizations that receive public funding from the Province of Ontario must disclose the names, positions, salaries, and taxable benefits of employees paid $100,000 or more in a calendar year. The intent of the Act is to promote transparency and accountability in the use of public funds.

SunshineList includes data from 1996 through 2025: 30 years of public sector compensation. The dataset contains 3,271,197 salary records under 633,147 distinct names and 5,654 employers, across sectors including municipalities, hospitals, school boards, universities, crown agencies, the Ontario Public Service, and more.

All salary data is sourced from the Government of Ontario’s official Public Sector Salary Disclosure page, released under the Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act, 1996. The data is provided as-is by the Government of Ontario.

All information displayed on SunshineList is derived from publicly mandated salary disclosures made by Ontario public sector employers. This data is a matter of public record. SunshineList is an independent project and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by the Government of Ontario.
